Why? > To prevent any oil leakes. Remember, On our engines, there could be a partial vacuum there due to that being the fan housing. On a T-1, it is atmospheric pressure. Most of them that I've seen have had some rust around the paper gasket. This would make sense, if you didn't want them to weld together (rust together).
