Re: [T3] Welder questions ( wire or stick)
<x-flowed>Quoting Kevin Howlett <kevinhowlett@bellsouth.net>:
Would a wire welder, or a Stick welder work best. When I get ready to
weld on the front apron on my 73's square. I also plan welding the
trim holes up in the body panels on my square. I'm trying to decide on
which one to buy.
-oops, original went directly to kevin-
stick is usually too much heat and is almost never used on sheet metal
for cars.
you would want a wire fed mig welder if you can afford it. you can also rent
these if you have an equipment rental house like tates or browns rental. it
runs some thing like 75 for 2 hours, but if you plan ahead you could do
alot of
welding in 2 hours.
i bought a easy mig 100 from harbor freight (for $120, on sale), but i
have not
used it much so i can comment on how well it would work for sheet metal
welding. it has no gas option, only wire flux (you have to chip off slag),
hence the "easy" part.
