Okay, you have to be careful here. The tube is in the firewall, but just about 1 cm past the firewall is the gas tank. If you push the hose in there too far it will push up against the gas tank and block itself off. If I'm installing a new hose there, I'm careful to cut the end at a slight angle, just to make sure that the upper side of the hose will touch the tank first and leave the bottom open. Someone on this list once reported that their hose had been pushed in too far and had caused a rustthru into the gas tank, so you don't want that to happen. I would think that you could clean out the hose, carefully clean out the area between the firewall and the gas tank, gently with a wire just to make sure there's nothing caught there. Then I would use Por 15 or tar on the rusted pipe. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
