I have no doubt that there are techs out there who are conscientious, 
knowledgable, hard-working and under 50. But in my experience they are 
rare. Stories of dealer-service ripoffs and neglect are now so common as 
to have become tedious, and I'd be surprised to hear that you haven't 
seen that from the inside as well.

But what you've been reading here is not 'bagging on technicians,' but 
rather frustration among people who care about their cars that 
conscientious, hardworking, caring people are generally discouraged from 
entering the field and making a career of it.
