I'm at work now, so I walked down to look at the tap drill chart. The correct tap drill for a 1/4-20 (75% thread in soft metals) is .201". A .219" hole would give you a 50% thread. The stripped out 6mm hole would be about .240", which is almost no smaller than the 1/4" stud you want to put in there. Maybe this will work if you have a 6mm stud which is just loose, but it sounds pretty skimpy for a completely stripped out hole. Nevertheless, it's a reasonable thing to try if you only have the commonly available tools. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
