VW went to 12V in '67, and FI was first introduced in SOME markets in 
'68, while 12V dual carb type 3s were sold in some parts of the world 
to the end of production. So '67 was the only year for 12V dual carbs 
in the US.

You can get away without the chokes in warm weather, but you have to 
adjust them to be open all the time.

I love the Muir book, but mostly for its Karma and illustrations. I 
don't agree with everything he suggests, but he does have lots of 
clever tricks about how to do certain jobs. I agree that if you are 
very in tune with your engine then you can jusually get by without a 
choke, but for most of the population this is not really an option.  

I don't care for the series resistor tricks, since they waste a LOT 
of power.
