Megasquirt works well, and if you look at the "Success Stories" section of the
forum, you'll see quite a few Type 1 and Type IV setups.  You can use most of
the D-Jet hardware, only swapping out the ECU and the MPS.  If you don't feel
like soldering together a kit, there are several shops that sell complete units
for $250-300.
