I think it's probably worthwhile to get the later bolts, because, with the hex washer head, they'll be a lot easier to install - just because the washer head will keep your wrench from slipping down past the head. The one broken bolt is certainly puzzling. I'd try fitting the plate to the TC before you put things together just so you know if there's a problem with the fit somewhere. > BTW - the old seal was obviously very worn - the sealing lip was flat. All oil seals wear a flat on them; it's only when they wear thru to the garter spring inside that they are truly finished. Of course you want to replace them before that happens, because the garter spring will damage the metal sealing surface, as on your drive plate. > As for the drive plate; mine is presumably an early one. I'll have to look at the one I have at home. I know it has fewer balancing holes in it. Yours has 10 rivets; I'll count mine. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
