Well... Ive been waiting to work on the nice low mileage virgin carbs on my Crate for a while now... I adjusted the fast idle with the gap spec in my Ken Ball book but quickly realized that things werent right. Tonight I got home and couldnt find my Ball, so I grabbed my Haynes and Walla! there it was! the gap spec to the idle screw for the fast idle.. .090, but what I figured out is that there are TWO fast idle speeds, The Super fast speed (.090) you only get if the choke plate really closes FULLY, like in the winter. but there is another step that you get if the choke plate simply closes a little bit (roughly .030). No need to have the choke fully close to get some high idle... so now with things adjusted like Brian showed me with just a light spring action on the chokes I should have no question about getting some high idle... and only get the real fast idle when I need it when things are real cold! Quality time with the Carbs!
