In the course of removing it, did you disconnect the brake line? If not, 
you'll want to check that the problem isn't actually the caliper but 
rather the rubber line. This often happens, and your symptom is typical. 
Every original rubber brake line on any Type 3 needs replacing long since.

If you have OEM calipers, _do not throw them away or trade them as 
cores_ unless you're guaranteed you'll get OEM quality in return. 
There's a lot of crap aftermarket stuff out there.
