I had a recollection the manual talks about punched marks, and that they are
placed opposite.  Maybe Keith's paint marks are two parts of the same mark, the
way you might with a scratch?

I guess if the marks are clearly done separately, it must mark the same thing
(heavy side or light side) and therefore would need to be opposite.
