VW used satin black for a reason. It disapates heat better. If you paint
the case, don't do a heavy coat. as it will hold heat in. Just clean it
up, and repaint it the orginal colors. Might be cooler yet.

I think Matt was asking about the parts that VW left unpainted.

I've heard that on their industrial engines VW actually supplied them with the
painted parts in a variety of colors. I think Bob Hoover mentioned this once.
I've never seen anything other than black.
