You can't run a spin on filter pump with a stock pump cover plate. The body of the spin on filter pump is machined differently for that task, and the "holes" don't line up. I wish I could draw a picture to explain what's in my mind! I'm sure you're familiar what the pump looks like with the cover off... The oil is drawn from the right side (from fan end), and the gears pull/push the oil to the other side of the pump, then into the main oil galley. Well on the spin on type of pump, the oil needs to be diverted through a passage in the cover, then back through another passage in the cover into the face of the pump body. That is the difference, in the original style of pump the output opening is in the side of the pump body, not the face. Does that make sence? Long an short, you need to get a stock style of oil pump. Pull the plugs when you crank the engine to build up oil pressure before you try to run it again. If you let it run for more than a minute, then you really might what to consider opening the engine up to make sure there was no bearing, or cam/lifter damage. -Bill --- Russ Wolfe <russw@classicvw.org> wrote: > On Fri, 2005-04-22 at 21:56, David Martinez wrote: > > I had it running already when I NOTICED THE LIGHT. > > > DO NOT ALLOW THE ENGINE TO RUN WITH NO OIL PRESSURE. > You WILL spin a main bearing. > > -- > Russ Wolfe > '71 FB AT > '66 FB MT > '64 T34 (not running) > '65 T1 (not running) > '05 KIA Sorento SUV > russw@classicvw.org > http://www.classicvw.org > > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | > mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
