Hi all, Got my son's '69 SB going today. Started here about 7 weeks ago with "Newbie with questions on stock FI". Here's the sequence of events. 1.. My son and I noticed a neighbor around the corner had this SB on the curb, hadn't moved in months. We finally talked to him, he said it wouldn't run, that he'd sell it for $300. Ended up being $200 as he couldn't find the title and the lost title fee in Or is $100. 2.. Pushed it home. We could barely get it to start. Ran exceedingly rich. Asked for advice on the list. Jim Adney and others really helped a lot. 3.. Pulled all the elect connections for the FI and cleaned all contacts with Corrosion X. It then ran pretty good. 4.. Got a new shift rod coupler to replace broken one. My son's first R&R on a part. It took him about an hour but got it done. 5.. Got a timing light and ran the motor. No advance. Shaft with advance weights frozen in the dist. Jim Adney offered to rebuild for the incredibly great price of $55. Sent it off to him. 6.. We got the distributor back today, like new. Thanks Jim!! Put it in and timed the motor. It runs perfectly. Just purrs at idle, good power, no smoke at all. Starts instantly. The car is in great condition. A few dings here and there, but that's all. No rust, it's from California. My son is so excited now, because when we started, I told him to expect a rebuild, which would cost $500-1000. So, I want to say thank you to all. These lists are a great thing and even though I have a lot of VW experience, I don't think we would have gotten the FI working with out help from the list. Thanks Jim Adney for putting the list here for us all!!!!
