Most modern exhausts are made with 409 stainless. It is easy to work,
and form. But it does get an oxide patena. To give and example, my 1992
Dakota (160K miles) pickup still has the original header pipe, and
Catlytic converter. The Muffer and tail pipe were just replace a couple
weeks ago. They were from a major independant retailer that the Dodge
dealer used under warranty because a baffle came loose in the muffler at
about 10K miles.
