[T3] Dave and Matt's Notch update-questions

Well, today we began to dismantle the engine. Matt opened the oil 
drain plug and out came ... water. Yikes. So we carried on and found 
one cycling with piston rusted to the cylinder. I'll upload some pics 
later. But we need your help ...

We are trying to remove the shroud that is around the fan. It appears 
to be in two halves with an outer and an inner. I understand that to 
get the inner off I need to remove the fan. But how do I get the 
outer off. We have undone all the bolts and yet it still resists our 
attempts to separate it. Also, does anyone know the thread pitch for 
the VW tool to pull off the fan?
