Also, if there is a > sizable gap due to rust, what kind of filler (?) could I use? It's messy, but here's what I have done. This works best when applied from the weather side, however. Clean everything up, removing all dirt, dried up undercoating, and loose rust. Spray LPS-3 (Not LPS-1) on all the surfaces and let it soak into the rust and dry a bit. Use a caulking gun with old fashioned roofing asphalt and apply a little to the wet metal/rust. Rub it around with your fingers until it mixes, joins and sticks. Add extra roofing tar as needed. If you need to bridge gaps, take some woven fiberglass cloth and cut it to fit over the gap. Put it on a piece of cardboard and spread roofing tar on it and work it in, fully impregnating the cloth. Put the cloth in place and blend it in with your fingers. Add extra tar as necessary. Use 2 layers for large gaps. You can also use thin alum sheet. It's more durable, but much harder to shape to fit. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Shameless link for search engines: http://listarchive.type3.org ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
