We certainly lose the NOx control that the EGR's job. Since those parts are long since discontinued, I don't think there is a reasonable option. I could silver solder my EGR filter back together (I still have the parts) but I don't think our cars represent a significant portion of the environmental load any more. I know that mine sees many fewer miles than it used to. I don't think removing the EGR causes any knock or pinging problems. The timing for those engines is not significantly different from non-EGR engines. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
