The OD of the inserts are 9/16" and have 4 pins that are driven in after the insert is screwed all the way in. It will never back out. There 2 different styles. One for the blind holes, and one for the holes that go clear thru. There are 7 blind holes, and 9 open holes in a VW case. They are called Keenserts. You can buy them on the web as individual pieces, but then it becomes very expensive. -- Russ Wolfe '71 FB AT '66 FB MT '64 T34 (not running) '65 T1 (not running) russw@classicvw.org http://www.classicvw.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
