It appears that the intitial reason the car died [right in front of my house, right before I was preparing to leave for work in the morning, who'd have imagined] was a break in the wire from the ECU [19] and the fuel pump relay. It broke at the junction in the engine compartment. Afterwards, the main FI power relay was miswired resulting in an always on state. I mark that one up at having juggled them after dark with the aid of a flashlight. The OE relays have been returned to service, and work fine. One of the fastest electrical troubleshooting sessions I've ever been involved in! We owe many thanks to the list.
