Another thought... back in the 80's I got a cheap set of points where the spring was sticking out to far and shorting against the side of the distributor. Check and make sure the parts of the points that arent supposed to be shorted to arent. Have you tried a different condensor? I'm basically asking the same question again hoping that somebody can > shed some light on this bizarre problem of mine.
