You don't HAVE to have the late case, but I strongly recommend it. You DO have 
to have a type 3 case with the provisions for the rear mount crossbar, which 
means that the case you have had better be a 69 type 3 case or you shouldn't 
consider using it.

I have good used late type 3 cases if you need one. AT and MT cases are 
different, but you can make do. If you're getting a different case, you might 
as well find exactly the right one.

I prefer to pick and choose. My impression of the "kits" is that they are 
generally of lesser quality. Picking the right parts is not a simple matter; 
there are lots of poor quality parts out there and plenty of places willing to 
sell them to you. Find a really reputable dealer and be willing to pay a little 
extra, but don't assume that paying more will automatically guarantee quality.

I've been happy with the parts I've bought from Berg and RIMCO. There must be 
other good places, too, but you should ask here before you commit your cash.
