For some strange reason, I had assumed that the Computer Diagnosis might have 
just been a US thing. I don't think anyone outside the US has ever mentioned it 
before. Very interesting that you could buy a battery with the sensor in it 
from a non-VW source.

Sounds like your dealer was pretty poor by anyone's standards.

Somehow, I get the feeling that most of us who got into these cars when they 
were new went thru this same transition.
