I suspect that there is a lot of variation in the quality of what is avaialble
out there. Personally, I don't have any experience with this stuff being bad,
but that's mainly because I haven't used it in decades. I just use the US made
5/16" hose because it doesn't have to be strained so much to get it on the
fittings. In the past, I found that that's where the hoses always failed.

The original hose was 7mm ID. I think VW had trouble with that, so they went to
7.5mm. 5/16" = 8mm and is an even better fit in my opinion; it slips over
nicely and still has no problem with leaks.

There is one thing that's nice about the euro hose: It's smaller in OD, which
makes it fit more nicely thru the grommets where it has to run in some places.

How long has your hose been on there? In my opinion it should last more than a
couple of years. Good hose will last 5-10 years; bad hose will crack and leak
in 12-18 months.
