Re: [T3] cloth covered fuel hose

<x-flowed>The first time I changed the fuel hoses on my car, I used German cloth-covered fuel hose that I bought from a garage that specialises in aircooled VWs.

Every single piece that I used cracked up and started leaking after about 18 months. If I had been driving the car it would most likely have gone up in smoke. I had to replace all of the fuel hoses again, this time with the type with the rubber on the outside. I just hope this lasts a bit longer.

Needless to say I won't be using the cloth covered stuff again.

I *love* the way it looks and fits. At first I didn't believe other people who complained of the quality problems. However, the last several batches I bought leaked WAY too soon -- both the smaller carb and larger f.i. versions. I personally gave up on it after the dang stuff failed again and again on my cars.

I now only buy the "American" style embedded-cloth variety.

Some people like the cloth variety because they say it's easy to spot the location of leaks by looking for wet cloth. Well, I guess I'd like to go with hose that's less likely to leak in the first place; ymmv.

Hm, maybe the stuff direct from the VW dealer is better. The hose I was buying was German from Rocky Mountain (RIP). I'd love to know if the hose you got at the dealer is still holding up after 12, 18, or 24 months.
