You can measure the resistance of the window element with an Ohmmeter. If it is 
much above 10 Ohms it is not much good.

The problem is oxides on the brass contact parts, even though these parts 
probably look fine. Try scraping them with a dental tool or a penknife. More 
spring pressure really isn't the right approach.
