One thing to remember about the ceramic coated mufflers, is that they
are only coated on the outside. Most mufflers actually fail due to rust
thru from the inside.
Back in the late '60's VW put some ceramic coated mufflers on the T-1's.
These did not seem to last much longer than the stock mufflers. Here in
this area, they got rock chipped, and that was the end of the ceramic.
Our mufflers run extremely hot, due to being mounted directly to the
head basicly. Most cars would have cast iron or stainless mounted that
close to the heat.
