According to my records, it was last replaced in 1987. It still isn't bad, just a slight leak around the damper inlet. I'll play it by ear for now. No sense replacing what's still in good service. It's really hard to say how much this might help, but I also don't see how it could hurt. In my experience there are just a couple of areas where these mufflers seem vulnerable: along the bottom seam, and the lower input pipes. Those lower pipes could even be painted on the inside as well, but I don't know how effective the paint will really be at those temps. Sounds like you're going to test this for us. The only problem with this, that I can see, is that we won't know the results of the test for years. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
