It's a 12V type ! coil, also used on busses with type 1 engines. I see no reason why it should not work just fine on any 12V aircooled VW, but it IS a somewhat late coil, so the quality may not be as good as an actual OE coil. For the life of me I can't imagine why there would be different parts for type 3s, or what that difference might be.
