Why would you think its the fuel pump?  Have you measured the pressure?  Id
be very surprized if its the fuel pump.

Where are all these carbbed mechanics coming from?  There hasnt been a carb
in the US since the late 80's.
You should definately fix the FI, carbs is a step back in technology and are
much more unreliable than the FI once its been reconditioned.  It is true
that any fuel system, be it carbs or FI, that has gone unrestored in 30
years needs some attention before its reliable again.
