They are apparently parallel pins - I've a set somewhere. I've a VW drawing for a locally-made tool for removing Beetle hinge pins - it's basically just a big screw clamp. ISTR the photo shows an Oval Beetle with a smartly dressed auto technician. Something similar should work for the Type 3 ones. Dave.
