Well guys and Gals I am half way to Hershey, I stared my trip Friday at 5:00 Am from Arizona. I made it all the way to Midland TX when my generator light came on, I was kinda in between towns so I kept going until I actually got to Midland. I took a peak in my Eng compartment and to my surprise my generator pulley had shattered. The inner part close to the generator broke in pieces so I stayed there for the night. The next morning I called every FLAPS in that and surrounding town and to my surprise NOT ONE including wrecking yards had not even a Type 1 pulley or whole generator to swap. I finally went to this VW shop that was closed a few months ago and found a few T1 engines in the fron yard, I looked around and saw a police man so I flagged him down and told him my problem. Long story short the old guy hooked me with a T1 pulley, I got longer belt and was on my way to Dallas. There I was I was able to get one at Aircooled parts in Garland. David the store owner stayed almost 4 hours opened late for me to arrive and get the right pulley. Just something to keep in mind for all of you invaders making the drive across the state. After this my Fasty has been running well although a little rough at idle. I have not checked my points, plugs or anything else yet but I will tomorrow. My clutch also seems a little loose, more than when I left 2,000 miles ago. Anyway I am in Alabama now and I am scheduled to star training on Thursday so I have time mess with my Fasty. What could be wrong? I adjusted everything (Valves, Timing, Carburetors, plugs) etc at Arizona which is at a lot more altitude than what I am now, could this have to do with my rough idle? or should I concentrate my efforts on the ignition system? Again Thank you Dave at Aircooledparts @ Garland TX and Mr Hammilton in Midland Tx for your help and Thank you Steven, Everret, Jim for your help on the oil cooler issue that I had because my Fasty did not overheat once and I was driving 65-70 MPH at about 95-100 degree weather making and average of 27-29 MPG too.
