I found it to be really, really, REALLY hard, on both my Type I and Type III front bars. (Yup, I really have a no-holes-necessary Type III front bar!)

I seem to recall using like a pair of slip joint pliers to squeeze together the handles of vice grips, or something equally absurd to get enough oomph to squeeze everything together.
