Just my experience here in MA...I was rear ended in my first type 3(1967) by a drunk driver, this happened two years ago. Completely the other guys fault, I was stopped at a red light and he slammed into the back of me. I had to fight with his insurance company a lot. They only offered me a bout $400. I had to fight to get a rental car while the issue was resolved-this should be covered, they damaged my car beyond it's ability to get me from point A to point B. I got one after about three days-it was a long weekend, and hard to get answers from weekend staff. Then I had to fight over the value of the car-they said mine was a rust bucket and not worth anything. They compared it to others for sale around the US. I agreed that it was rusty, but it was the only 1967 squareback in all of New England(at least I thought so at the time), regardless of condition. To get another one here in any condition would cost close to $1000. I had to show receipts proving I had done a lot of work on the car-and was in the process of restoring it. I don't remember the final settlement, but it was probably around $1500-2000. I have no sympathy for Insurance companies-they try hard to screw you...so fight for as much as you can. Also my car was eventually "totaled". But I got to keep it. Just don't forget to cancel the registration, I did-and my insurance company billed me for 4 months insurance. Don't ask about keeping it until after the settlement-otherwise they may not offer you as much. -kevin '65 kombi '71 sqbk somerville, ma ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Shameless link for search engines: http://listarchive.type3.org ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
