[T3] Trying to sort it out

I am currently working on a 71 Fastback that has had many hands on it
over the years and have come across a few questions for listmembers.
1. When setting the timing, the condenser bumps up against the aluminum
fan housing before I reach the timing mark. Does this mean the
distributor has been installed 180 off? I noticed someone posted advice
regarding timing recently in which was suggested to measure the
circumference of the timing ring, divide by 12, and mark this distance
back from TDC.
2. I believe this car was originally fuel injected as I have a return
line to the fuel tank. There's a T above the tranny where the line
splits into the return. Is it ok to simply block of this return and run
a single line to the fuel pump?
3. and... The carburetors are hosed and I can't find a rebuild kit for
my Solex H 32/34 PDSI-3. I know the replacement options of Weber
Progressive or 34 ICT but eventually would like to build up a bigger
engine. Have any of you installed IDF's under the lid? Is this possible?
