Okay, a '71, a very good year. Do you have the Bentley manual? Do you have any electrical troubleshooting experience? First check all the fuses. This may be a complete waste of time, but it's an easy place to start. Look for fuses that are not really burned out, but where the metal has cracked. Twist each one in its holder a bit just to break thru any corrosion. It MIGHT be as simple as the E-flasher switch or the headlight switch coming apart. Can you work your hand up behind the dash and feel those switches as you operate them? Each of them is a metal "box" with all the terminals mounted on one side. Sometimes that side comes loose from the box and wobbles around. If yours is loose you might be able to crimp it back in place or replace it, but you have to try to narrow down the problem first. It's probably easiest to unscrew the fuse box first and pull it down. Then you will have better access to those switches. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Shameless link for search engines: http://listarchive.type3.org ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
