Hi, One thing I would add to your excellent & extensive notes is regarding the adjusting stars. I went through this last year on my rear drum brakes. When I tried to adjust the brakes-the adjusting stars would not move at all, I had to take the wheel and drum off, to get at the adjusting star area. I took this apart, wire brushed the threads to clean them up, then greased with some penetrating lubricant ran the stars back and forth until they seemed to adjust pretty easily, then put a little anti-seize on the threads-so that I would be able to adjust them easily in the future. I think those are the lubricant things I used-it was a while ago. Anyway the idea is that if you have the system apart-check the threads around the adjusting stars-see if they are pretty clean, and that the star turns easily. This is a relatively easy thing to do while exposed-as opposed to trying to adjust your brakes and getting nowhere. -kevin '65 kombi '71 sqbk somerville, ma -----Original Message----- From: Jim Adney [mailto:jadney@vwtype3.org] Subject: [T3] Brake Notes Please read over these notes.
