Thanks Russ. I took the end piece off...you need a pair of pliers to squeeze this rod, and then it slides out pretty easily. I took this end piece off when I had the rod almost all the way out. I then replaced it while up front, but was unable to slide the whole sift rod back in-it kept catching on something or other. So I pulled it back out, took the end piece off, reinserted-no problem. Then attached the end piece from the underside rear access panel. Same spot as the square bolt, with the hole in it. I was able to get a 9mm wrench on this but not my 9mm socket(12pt v 6pt I think?) All back together-just the front cover plate-which I am painting as it is a little rusty-probably from being near the master cylinder. I can't wait to take it for a test drive-I remember my bus shifted much more smoothly when I replaced this. -kevin '65 kombi '71 sqbk somerville, ma ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
