Is it possible that the coupler has come loose from the hockey stick (shift rod sticking out of the trans)? If that set screw has come loose, then you might have trouble getting a gear. Or possibly that the shift rod end of the coupler isn't in the same location as it was when you started? I'm only asking because with a "stock" shifter the plate under it can be installed 4 ways with only 1 correct. The correct locationm has already been described. I can't help you on the push button version your car already had. Why did you remove it? What exactly have you done to get this problem to crop up? I'm only asking because it sounds like something simple (like a spacer plate installed incorrectly) has snowballed into a full blown problem that keeps snowballing into a bigger problem. Some times it's the little things that catch you up (BTDT).
