What year car do you have? Fuel injected? Most times a fuel leak and gas in the case would have no relation. Gas in the tank would be from running rich. The leak is probably a bad fuel hose or connection. Try to isolate which fuel hose is leaking and replace it. If it is at the clamp you can trim the hose and reconnect, just don't tighten it too much or it may leak again.
