The Bentley manual is the best manual to get, by far. Hope that's what you got.

This sounds odd, because the throttle cable should run thru a small tube high 
up on the tunnel. That one should never get rusty.

That's a MAJOR job. You might want to just look for a body in better shape 
before you get yourself too invested in this one. There really are no new pans, 
so if you find a donor car with a good pan then it may be better than the car 
you have. I would think that finding a nice type 3 in Sandy Eggo would be 
rather easy.
