Hi, Today on my way to work, *just* as I made it to the top of the hill and was going down the other side, the accelerator cable broke. I looked down to the pedal in disbelief (which was literally down to the metal) thinking, "wake up, wake up, this isn't happening"... But it surely did. After pulling over at the next small street, I saw that the cable broke at the pedal assembly (I have a RHD so it was on the left side of the tunnel as you look down from a driving position). Because I had to get to work I left my notch parked and hopped on the bus. After work I want to find a way to re-attach temporarily the cable so I can get home (I don't have a VW spare parts nearby my house or work) and tomorrow morning buy an accelerator cable. Questions: 1. I have not inspected it in detail so I don't know if I have any slack at the motor side to lengthen it on the pedal side, BUT any pointers on how I temporarily fix it to drive a distance of 3 km? The cable broke right at the lever that is attached to the pedal assembly, the cable came off a cylindrical tube. You can just make out the cylinder (stained brown) from the first picture on the second row of: http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~petri/71vwnotch/pedal_ass/index.htm 2. I am leaving the old cable there to use it as a guide for the new cable, ideas on how to attach the two together for it to smoothly slide inside the cable housing? Thanks in advanced, Petri 71 Notch ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
