Yeah, a company I used to work for hated shipping anything to Canada, even if
it was just across the river from us, as the prices were 3 times what it
should normally be (almost equal to shipping by air). I think part of the cost is
that you are shipping to a "foreign" country, and you have to file papers with
customs. I live in a border town, and most of the Canadians that are saving
money have stuff shipped to my local UPS center for holding, then pick it up.
The last time I was in there, there was a stack of tires waiting for pick up.
They had already been there for 3 days. They were just bare tires though,
banded together in pairs. Depending on how close he is though, it would make a big
difference in how much he'll save. I know I've had rims sent to me, and it was
very expensive, as they had put 2 rims in each box, which ended up being
quite heavy, but it was still cheaper than sending them seperately. Just some food
for thought.
