Yes, the rubber is indeed different. The groove is offset more to allow the wider/flatter chrome moldings to be centered on the outside of the rubber. If you use a later style window rubber, the chrome will not be positioned like the factory ones were. It is a PITA to install ANY of the chrome strips in the rubber, even harder to install the wide early stuff in later model thin chrome rubber. But it can be done. 10 years ago the early rubber was very difficult to find, I can't imagine it got any easier. It will have to be NOS, so get out your pocket books and bend over, it's gonna hurt is my guess. BTW, I used to be able to tell if you used the wrong rubber from a mile away. Course we have front and rear NOS bits for #10 already ( I think we need another set for #54 though). We do need early 61 NOS pop-out window rubbers ( The ones that go ON the body. ) if anybody runs across some.
