Not much of the big stuff: fuel pump & filter, relays, injectors & mounting hardware, temp sensors, voltage regulator, aux air regulator, distributor and trigger points, fuel pressure regulator, spark plugs. Take a voltmeter and a good manual, like the Bentley or the Elfrink FI manual. It's likely to be a broken wire or rusted fuel pump. Be prepared to fix a broken fuel overflow hose, which lets water into the gas tank; if you don't fix it, it will let you down again half way home. Take a good Bosch 30-019 voltage regulator, just in case. Listen for 2 relay clicks when you get in the car and turn the key ON. You should hear 1 click and then a second click about 1 second later. If you don't hear both of these then there is a wiring problem that you need to find and fix first thing. If there is someone in the area with the Bosch FI tester, that will make short work of finding wiring problems. Anyone out there got one in Arizona? As someone else mentioned, check the valve adjustments and all the ignition stuff FIRST. Make sure that you actually have spark going to all 4 cylinders. Use a timing light with an inductive pickup; if you clip it to each of the wires in turn you can verify that there is spark going to all 4 plugs. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
