(!) I'll defer to Russ on this, but I don't think it looks good. The reddish flat strips must be friction clutch material, which means that one of them has disintegrated. I don't know whether this automatically means that you've chewed up expansive pieces or not. For sure, there's stuff of all kinds thruout the AT, and it's probably important to clean it out well as it's rebuilt. As for the stones, that's weird, because you had this pan off a couple of years ago and I assume those stones weren't there when you put it back together. I was going to guess that they got in when your filler pipe was loose, but didn't you fix that BEFORE you took the pan off last time? You might want to just look for a good used AT. Look at the Bentley manual and note that there was an early version with different side covers where the axle shafts come out. If you have the early one, I'd look for a good used later version. There's a late version of the torque converter, too. Make sure you have late versions of both. Try to find a '70-71 AT and a '70-73 TC. The '72-3 AT uses a different vacuum modulator that is visibly different. There may also be a serial number on them that differentiates. I'm not sure about that. It looks like the good ones MAY be EB transmissions.
