It should be 45-50 deg. Are you sure you know how to read the dwell scale? If the dwell is too large, the coil will draw too much current and will get hotter. If the point gap is too small, a small change in temp might make it go away completely. I've forgotten: Do you know that your engine dies due to lack of spark? Is the big cooling air intake bellows in place at the rear of the engine? It must seal well at both ends and not have any tears in it. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
