As a rule, am opposed to autos, but my Fasty is an auto. Oddly enough, I've never driven a manual T3. The auto is bulletproof as they say on this list. The core of the tranny as I understand it was still in use in the early 90's on the waterpumpers. So, in the T3's case, I'll have to make an exception on my no-autos rule. Oh, and crazy at it seems, my Fasty still has all the automatic detents still functioning (the stops on the shifter- so I actually HAVE to follow the shift pattern). My first fasty once got kicked into park coming on a highway onramp (don't ask) because the detents were gone. That said, my '03 Passat Variant is one of the few in the country with the V6 and a manual tranny- and is otherwise fully loaded. Had to special order it from The Fatherland. It's for that reason that I veer towards german cars- who else are you gonna buy a stickshift stationwagon?
