I also had a rash of spam over the last couple of weeks, but it seems to have settled down now. This kind of stuff seems to come and go, and I suspect that it often happens when a friend's computer has been compromised by one of the spambot viruses. My wife has an address that I check every day, just to keep it cleared out. No one here has actually used that address for ANYTHING in the last 4 years or so, but it was getting 200 spam messages a day there for awhile. Now that's all past. I'm guessing that someone finally discovered what their computer was doing and cleared it out. Your suggestion to elide the email addresses is probably a good one, but it probably won't have a significant effect. I'm pretty active on newsgroups, where everyone says to obscure your email address. If that were really true, I'd be swamped, but I still find that it goes in spurts which don't seem to correlate to anything that I do on my end. If you really want to slow down spambots and viruses, encourage all your friends to avoid using any and all MS internet products: Internet Explorer, Outlook, and Outlook Express. My recommendations are Pegasus for email, Opera for web brousing, and Forte Agent for newsgroups, or just use Linux or Macs. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
