Can you feel anything on the other side?. No, you are fighting the outer spring plate. It can be measured tho with dial indicator, or with a feeler guage if the axle boot is off. > > I suspect you will have to replace that part to fix this leak. I might just be a case of replacing the gaskets. BUT, make sure you have the right amount, and the right mix to get the endplay right. Also, you can get the axle tube out without pulling the engine and trans. You have to support the trans, and remove the bolts from the cross member. Now jack the trans up a couple inches and the axle tube ring will clear the frame horn. -- Russ Wolfe '71 FB AT '66 FB MT '64 T34 (not running) '65 T1 (not running) russw@classicvw.org http://www.classicvw.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Shameless link for search engines: http://listarchive.type3.org ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
